Corrections

Counts, classifications, and source links on HantaScan can drift. If you see something on this site that disagrees with the underlying public-health source, the underlying source wins — please file a correction so it gets fixed.

What qualifies as a correction

Corrections fix the page against the source — they are not editorial requests.

  • A count on HantaScan disagrees with the current WHO or CDC source.
  • A classification (confirmed / probable / inconclusive / surveillance) is wrong.
  • A source link is broken, redirected, or no longer points at the cited page.
  • A date is wrong relative to the underlying public source.
  • A state record on the map dataset misstates region or reservoir context.

Required evidence

Corrections move faster when they include the source that supports them. A link to the official page is almost always enough.

Priority order

We work through corrections in roughly this order.

  • Counts and classifications that affect a public-facing number.
  • Broken links to primary sources (CDC HAN, WHO DON, NNDSS).
  • State dataset corrections affecting the map layer.
  • Wording corrections, including clarity and accessibility.

Turnaround

There is no SLA. Most counts and classification corrections are handled within a few days of arrival; wording corrections may sit longer. Urgent public-health concerns should not go through this form — contact the relevant agency directly.

What corrections do not cover

Editorial decisions about which records to include, how to frame a situation page, or which sources to cite are not corrections — they are scope. Send those as tips instead, so they can be considered alongside roadmap work.
